PROTOTYPE GREEN HOME

This single family three-bedroom home, designed by Melotte Morse Leonatti Parker, Ltd. (MMLP) in partnership with the Menard County Housing Authority, is slated for completion in late 2009. Intended to set the standards for future public housing in Menard County, the home will include many highly energy efficient and sustainable green building features. These include passive solar heating, a very well insulated and tight building envelope, new recycled content materials where possible and a geothermal heating and cooling system. This will be the housing authority's first sustainable home. It will be the model to test the economic viability, maintainability and ease of use of the many new green materials, equipment, products and construction techniques available today. The home will be Energy Star rated. MMLP's LEED Accredited Professionals are designing the home using the United States Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Standards. This state of the art residence will be the first of many to offer public housing residents a healthier and less expensive place to live.
