DANA LIBRARY RESTORATION
Lawrence Adult Education Center School District 186
Springfield, Illinois
MML did the historic research and design for the restoration of this original Frank Lloyd Wright
interior. MML worked with Taliesin Associates of Spring Green, Wisconsin to accurately detail
and recreate the library as a working resource center. Commissioned in 1906 by Susan
Dana-Lawrence to honor her father, Rheuna Dana, after Wright had completed designing and
building her house in Springfield (ca.1903-06).
The current library restoration was part of a larger upgrade and remodeling of the building
(a former high school) for the school district's adult education facility. The historic
preservation project completely reconstructed the significant Frank Lloyd Wright designed
Lawrence Library, a project aided by a State of Illinois grant and private contributions.
